WestSports College Football Ranking (1998-2000)

Explained!!

There are four factors to my college football ranking

#1: Strength of Schedule

Strength of Schedule is determined by the preseason rankings of teams.  To determine strength of schedule you must add up the preseason rankings of each team played by a certain team and divide by the number of games played.  After all teams SOS has been calculated the average is found.  A team recieves a - (good) or + (bad) when subtracting the average overall SOS from the team SOS.  See the 2000 power poll for my strength of schedule rankings by team.
NOTE: SOS is not listed on weekly polls.  To see how it is used read below.

#2: Points Rank

Points rank is determined by a teams won-loss record and their points for(PF) versus points against(PA).  The number one team will have the least loses with the most wins and the most more PF vs. PA.  This in effect gives teams with more games played and won a better ranking.  However any team that plays easier teams and always beats those teams by many points will have a worse SOS which will lower their overall ranking.

Elements #3 and #4 factored into the poll are the ESPN/USA Today poll and the AP poll.

So...how is it all put together?

Actually, it's very simple.  Mathematically speaking: Points poll+ ESPN poll+ AP poll+ SOS= Total points.  The team with the least total points is the overall leader.
